Peek inside the new studio...

The Process of Moving: Old Studio

I think it is safe to say we are finally settling into the new home and routines. And the whole move kind of knocked me on my rear end- I envisioned this smooth transition, so confident I even waited until the 2 days before driving to pack up the studio. What the hell was I thinking?!!

No exaggerating when I tell you, I have not touched my sewing machine in almost 2 weeks (that will change today!) It's depressing right? So what have I been doing? Well... unpacking some, trying to get the new studio situated some, drinking a lot of Dunkin Donuts coffee, and eating a lot of pizza.

Oh yes, and I started homeschooling the boys too!

I've been trying to work out the routine of schooling in the morning, working in the afternoon. However the new studio is on the 3rd floor... which means the boys are either on the first or 2nd and I can't hear or see them. I thought I was way past the days of baby monitors but I think that I'll be picking some up this week.

Hometown Countdown

Happy Monday! We're 3 days away from the big move- so undoubtedly these last few days are going to be spent cleaning nooks & crannies in the house & preparing for the drive ahead. In case you didn't catch the earlier post we're relocating almost 700 miles from our home here in Kentucky to be closer to family and friends in New Jersey. Nick and I both were born and raised in a small town called Phillipsburg, NJ which borders the Pennsylvania state line. While its bittersweet to leave the home we built here in Kentucky...
I'm certainly looking forward to local pizza, Crivellaros fresh mozzerella cheese, deep fried hot dogs, and the ability to take a day trip to the beach... though it might be too cold for that now?!

Tell me what you love most about your hometown- Do you have a favorite tradition, food, or landmark?!

The "stuff" you love...

I don't think I've officially announced it anywhere- well, unless you hang out with me on other social media outlets, that is. TrashN2Tees is packin' up and moving shop. And let me tell you... it has me stressed.

Next week we'll I'll be loading down our trucks with the stuff we love and temporarily shacking up in Easton, Pennsylvania, a small town across from our hometown in New Jersey. (Nick and I are both from Jersey) We'll be there until we're able to find our forever home across the river.

Our living room getting a face lift this week

While we've literally considered and weighed our options of returning 'home' every year since Sam was born (he's now six) it appears that we are actually going to go through with this. Over the past few months we've managed to whittle down our belongings- giving away items on Freecycle, craigslist, and dropping off loads at the local Goodwill. Holy cow, the amount of 'stuff' we had- and I mean... stuff that just didn't matter. Stuff that I had no connection to. Stuff that was taking up space.

I sent out this tweet last week, "After today I officially own less than 5 pieces of furniture/or appliances ((in my whole house))" It got a lot of response, and really... it's not so bad living this temporary minimalist lifestyle. Once you sell or give away all the stuff you don't need or shouldn't have bought in the first place only the truly valuable things will be left. Cherish the stuff you love.

So here's a question for you: If you could bring only 5 'things' what would they be? What is the 'stuff' you love most?

A little FYI:

The shop will remain open with no shipping/order delays.
The whole trip is 650 miles.
We're moving from a +170 acre farm to a row home in the 'city'.
Crayola products are made in Easton, PA
We have 15 nieces and nephews (13 of will be in the area)

The Problem: Our global solution for garbage? Put it in a pile or burn it. Why have we accepted landfills as a solution?  I want people to really look in their trash cans & think about what they’re consuming. Think about how it affects our environment and realize that it doesn’t disappear after the garbage trucks come pick up- thats why on November 14th we are coming together to Create Change.

The Create Change Movement will revolutionize the way view our trash, and change the way we consume and create. While we may not be able to completely eliminate the garbage coming out of our homes, if we find creative ways to reuse materials (along with recycling) we will cut back on the amount of trash we produce while injecting color, textures, and wonder into our lives and communities.
